Fred Truyen

Fred Truyen (°1961) holds a PhD in Philosophy (1991) Fred Truyenand is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts, KU Leuven, Belgium. Head of the Faculty’s Computer Department since 1989.

Fred Truyen is a member of the Institute for Cultural Studies, where he leads the CS Digital Media lab.

He teaches Informatiekunde (Information Tools) and Online Publishing to students in cultural-historical fields such as Archaeology, Art History, History, Oriental Studies, Musicology, Cultural Studies. His research focusses on two main strands: Online and Open Learning, ICT skills and Epistemology on the one hand and Digitization of Cultural Heritage – in particular photography – on the other. Fred Truyen is president of Photoconsortium.

His main personal interest is in futurology, our perception of and aspirations for the future and the way this shapes current technologies. Fred is also an active Flight Simulation fan.
